Climate Action Towns

Our project manager Joan, and our development officer Bethany will be attending the Climate Action Towns events in Alness & Invergordon this weekend. We’re super excited to get out and get the opportunity to speak to members of the community and lend an ear to community organisations about the kind of support and advice they would like to see from us.

You may be wondering what Climate Action Towns is, and why is it specifically Alness & Invergordon. The Climate Action Towns project is led by Architecture & Design Scotland, and it is in place to empower communities throughout Scotland to take climate action. Alness & Invergordon have been chosen in this project as they are at risk from the impacts of climate change and have previously not been in receipt of support or funding to carry out a climate action project.

The events this weekend are really geared towards every aspect of the community, from businesses and how they can help and support, to community groups who may be able to carry out a climate action project. There are a fantastic range of participants coming along to the events, and plenty of ways to get involved from making a climate pledge – something that you can do to help reduce your carbon footprint, to climate cafes – where you can talk about climate change and how it makes you feel. The Hub is also bringing along a fun game to play… Come along to find out more about it!

The Hub has been working with Architecture & Design Scotland since September 2021 to help support any of the ideas identified throughout the workshops that have been hosted so far. We will be on hand to help embed climate action throughout everything we can do as communities, and we are there to help support community organisations to take climate action. You can also hear about our plans and how we are supporting the Highland Climate Festival 2022. These events this weekend are a great chance for residents to come along and voice their views on how both Alness & Invergordon can become more climate friendly.
