Earth Day 2022

What are you doing in your community for Earth Day 2022?

We all know that there are about a zillion of these ‘#hastag’ days throughout the year. Ok, so not a zillion, there are only 365 days in the year but there are a lot and it can be difficult to keep up with them. But they are fantastic as a tool on social media to raise awareness for your cause, your community and your activities if you can find events, activities, even an excuse to shout about what you do on one of these days.

#earthday is no exception, it is firstly one of the oldest running awareness days being celebrated in 2022 in its 50th year. It has been around for much longer than the hashtag or social media has been. Earth Day is an initiative by EARTHDAY.ORG who have a mission to diversify, educate and activate the environmental movement worldwide. The first Earth Day was held in 1970 and this developed into the organisation Earthday.org which has worked with over 150,000 partners across 192 countries to further the environmental movement.

The theme of this year’s Earth Day is ‘Invest in our Planet’ you can watch the video below or visit the Earthday.org to find out more.

What can you do in your community for Earth Day?

There are a host of tips on the website Earth Day Tips including everything from very simple actions to registering and holding an event. Smaller tips for individual or group actions include:

  • Planting a tree

  • Writing to local/regional/national government about your climate concerns

  • Advocating for climate action

  • Organise a community clean up day

There are 52 tips on there so there is bound to be something that you can do either with your community or as an individual action. Here at the Hub we are planning our own small pledges and throughout Friday 22nd April will be sharing what our staff are getting up to. We would love to share what you are doing in your community so please tag us on Facebook, Instagram or Twitter with @nhclimatehub or use the #nhclimatehub.
