Sustainable Spaces

Our Sustainable Spaces support funding is now open for expressions of interest from organisations who seek to lead the way in making the future of their communities more sustainable. We are looking for 10 organisations to be the founding members of this new network. Access funding support now to be the change and contribute towards a fairer, climate ready region in the Highlands & Islands. 

About the Sustainable Spaces Fund 

The Highlands & Islands Climate Hub is pleased to offer its members who own community spaces, support to implement sustainable practices and be part of a network of organisations committed to creating climate conscious communities across the region. The Fund is available to up to 10 existing organisations who manage community spaces and are members of the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub.  

We have a support package and funding available with an expression of interest deadline for 2023/2024 of: 

  • 5pm on 30th November 2023 

Our funding is a combination of one to one support and small pots of grant funding, depending on what the successful organisations taking part need. The fund is designed to support community owned and run spaces to implement sustainable policies and practises as part of the continual running of their service and engagement with their communities.  

Timeline of the fund is as follows 

  • 5pm on 30th November 2023 - Expression of Interest Forms submitted 

  • 10 organisations selected and decision circulated by mid December 2023 at the Latest 

  • Member of Hub staff assigned to each organisation to provide one to one support by End of December 2023 

  • Support starts beginning of January 2024 with organisations working through sustainability steps and creating policies  

  • Any funding required for reusable resources is discussed and issued by the end of February 2024  

  • The project is complete by the end of March 2024 

Sustainable Spaces Funding Criteria

Spaces must be owned, run and used by the community 

  • Organisations must have a constitution, a board and be not for profit. 

  • Must be based in the Highlands and Northern Isles. 

  • Able to commit to 10 hours input between January and March 2024 

  • Be committed to developing the sustainability of their venue and organisation 

  • Be a Member of the Highlands and Islands Climate Hub 

  • Be happy to be a member of a network of community spaces across the region.
