Scotland: Our Climate Journey Film Screening

On the 17th of November 2022, I attended the film screening of Scotland: our climate journey at Eden court in Inverness. This film covers a wide array of climate change issues; it follows the journey back in 2009 of getting the climate act through the Scottish Parliament.

On arrival at Eden court, I found myself waiting among other people chatting in anticipation of the film. There was a feeling of excitement but also nervousness, which is often the case when the topic of climate change is at hand. The doors opened, and we all found our seats. We were met with a backdrop of a winding Scottish road, which was a simple image, yet it captured nature alongside humans perfectly.

The film starts with Mike Robinson, the chief executive of the Royal Scottish Geographical Society. We followed local groups and people from across Scotland, each passionate about their story. The beautiful thing was that a topic which is often daunting was bringing people together. From distilleries finding ways to evolve and get their incredible industry into a net zero future. To farmers moving towards agroforestry. These smaller local stories were shown alongside energy giants such as Scottish power. While sitting in the dark of the theatre, taking everything in, I realised how well the point, that we can all lend a helping hand to the fight against climate change was being put across.

This topic doesn't need to be scary, it is happening now, and we must act now. Still, there is hope, and we have every chance to hit our targets by supporting each other and coming together for a common goal.

I can't recommend the film enough, and if anyone can go and see it, you will not regret it!
