Highland Adapts Weather & Climate Story Map

Highland Adapts is a partnership that brings people, businesses, land managers and the public sector together to facilitate transformational action towards a prosperous, climate-ready Highland. It takes a widespread team of people to deliver Highland Adapts and we are proud to be one of nine founding partners, joined by various local stakeholders who are all motivated to support this vision. We are all taking action from within our own organisations, and we now need you to get involved too!

Our colleagues at Highland Adapts are developing a Climate Risk and Opportunity Assessment to help the region prepare for future climate change. Existing data shows that the Highland climate is already changing and will only continue to do so, as global climate change worsens. Therefore, we must now collect the stories and real weather experiences of the local communities as we need to better understand what future climate change will mean for the people, economy and biodiversity that make up this large-scale region.

Highland Adapts have developed the Highland Weather & Climate Story Map to help you share your stories.

Your stories could cover many different things; for example, have you noticed any changes in the way you travel? Or has a specific weather event damaged some of your property?

It is difficult to say if a certain weather pattern is attributable to climate change, but we do know that we will experience more abnormal weather events like those you have lived through more frequently. This is why your past weather experiences are so important to us because these will help to paint a clearer picture of how we are experiencing weather and climate, where we are most at risk, and how to improve in future, so we can maximise opportunities to be more climate resilient.

Please join us in supporting Highland Adapts with this vital piece of work for the upcoming risk assessment. We urge everyone to have their say as this consultation will help guide and influence policy development, investment priorities and climate action across Highland.

So, it’s now time to share your Highland weather and climate stories!
